This week we begin a 4 part series looking at the different aspects of life in Glovo for couriers from all walks of life.
Glovo is a platform that allows couriers to collaborate as they see fit. In the last year, Glovo was ranked as the top platform in the gig workspace in Kenya. Glovo scored 7/10 according to the Fairwork report.
The reason this is true is that Glovo couriers are able to earn money free and unencumbered. Glovo ensures that all couriers are able to earn a decent income as regulated by the fair wages indicator in each city. They are able to collaborate with Glovo and make good money with around 300 couriers making kes 7270 and more each week. A large number of Glovo couriers confess that they prefer to collaborate with Glovo only such as Bernice and James due to the financial security that Glovo provides and also the ability to work on their own terms.
Insurance
Glovo couriers are insured in case of accidents, thus they are able to receive reimbursement for money spent while receiving treatment and also for days spent at home / hospital while recuperating. The reason Glovo does this for couriers is because Glovo truly cares about the welfare of the couriers. There is more in depth information on this right here.
Learning facilities:
All Glovo couriers are eligible for the Glearning program so far over 45 couriers are currently enrolled for different courses on the platform. Glovo has partnered with Foxize & Busuu platforms to ensure that couriers can receive easy access to free online education, as you can see here. Due to the expense of browsing, we have also made a computer available with free internet at the Nairobi Glover center for the couriers to come and learn on the platform every day when we have attention hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The courses vary from excel courses to business management, foreign languages and cybersecurity. The couriers who enroll for the courses receive a certificate at the end of the course. This is a positive for the couriers as they have the option to self-improve and also have better career opportunities and also advance their careers if they so wish.
Career Advancement
Did you know that you can apply for a job in Glovo office? In instances whereby Glovo positions have been advertised, (they are usually advertised on Linkedin) we encourage Glovo couriers to apply and if they meet requirements they will be considered for the role. The person who best meets the criteria will then be given the role, however Glovo couriers do have an upper hand eg Hamisi Said a Glover specialist in Mombasa who started as a Glovo courier. The reason is, Glovo couriers already know and understand the company and business model of the company and majority of the time end up being hired for the role.
There are many great things that make Glovo a preferred platform for couriers in Kenya and the above are just a few of them. Next week we will look at the platform from the view of the couriers.
What do you think are the best things about being a courier in Glovo?
