In the second part of our 4 part series of the Glovo life, we look at one of the benefits of being a Glovo courier.
Safety is a very big deal at Glovo. We care about the couriers’ safety when delivering and that includes safety when on the roads and also when making deliveries in different neighborhoods. Unfortunately, sometimes we encounter danger or we suffer an accident. The majority of the time when we suffer an accident we become worried about how we will make ends meet, especially if we have to recuperate for a period of 2 weeks to one month.
Fret not! Glovo has you covered because the insurance cover – Qover, covers personal accidents suffered during collaboration. All the courier has to do is to provide the necessary documentation. When all documents are provided the courier is compensated for the amount spent at the hospital and also the days they did not work e.g. Kelvin Ndungu who suffered an accident last year and was compensated for the month he was home and also the money spent on hospital bills was fully reimbursed.
There are a number of couriers who have suffered accidents and have been compensated. In case of an accident, all you need to do is let us know and provide the necessary requirements as communicated by the insurance team.. There is more information on the insurance process here.
Whilst road safety is important we also acknowledge that personal safety is also very important. Some areas are more safe than others in all cities across the world and Kenya is no exception.
We do understand that the following are the most concerning to Kenyan couriers in regard to personal safety:
- Delivering orders at night
- Potential robbery
- Harassment: this could be done by security teams or even customers/ stores
These are all valid concerns, and Glovo has partnered with Rescue Co in order to assist couriers in such instances at no cost to the courier (for free).
They have a security team that will come and ensure your safety wherever you are.
What do you need to do to access these services?
- Click on the SOS button on the profile section of the Glovo courier app and a call will be initiated to Rescue Co
- Dial 0711 911 911 which is Rescue Co’s direct number
The services include:
- Ambulance services in case you need immediate medical attention and transfer to a hospital facility
- First aid assistance in case of minor injuries
- Towing of motorbike to a safe area
- Security assistance in case of arrest: they will come and assist couriers when dealing with police, they will also assist couriers in areas where safety is a concern.
In instances where the courier is hurt during his collaboration, the insurance is accessible.
To access insurance services, initiate the claim process in the courier app under the insurance tab or send us an email to inform us of the accident and we will initiate the process on your behalf.
Stores located in some of the more dangerous areas are not operational on the platform during the later hours of the night to ensure the safety of the couriers.
