How to stay protected

It is important that you follow protective and hygienic measures from the Ministry to protect yourself and those around you.

We suggest you:

  • Wear a mask and gloves
  • Use antimicrobial soaps and water
  • Clean hands with alcohol-based hand sanitisers (with 60% to 95% of ethanol isopropanol)
  • Keep a safe distance from others

How do I know I have the Ebola virus?

It’s important that you take any sign of Ebola seriously and stay at home. The disease starts to spread when you have symptoms. Did you know that it takes between 2 and 21 days for symptoms to develop?

Symptoms of EVD can be sudden and include:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat

This is followed by:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Rash

Symptoms of impaired kidney and liver function
In some cases, both internal and external bleeding (for example, oozing from the gums, or blood in the stools).
Laboratory findings include low white blood cell and platelet counts and elevated liver enzymes.
